Pilots

Validate before you scale

SolMod pilots are structured, measurable deployments designed to reduce decision risk. We work with your team to define scope, install on a target facade, and deliver a clear readout suitable for internal approval processes.

Why pilot sites matter

Retrofit decisions require evidence that is specific to your building, climate, and operational context. A scoped pilot produces the measured data that procurement, finance, and facilities teams need to move forward with confidence.

How a pilot works

Phase 1

Site & Baseline Definition

  • Identify target facade, orientation, and occupancy pattern
  • Document existing comfort complaints and HVAC baseline
  • Confirm what can be credibly measured during the pilot window
  • Align stakeholders on scope and success criteria

Phase 2

Deployment & Installation

  • Install louver system on selected windows (typically 4-20 units)
  • Coordinate with facilities for non-disruptive scheduling
  • Deploy monitoring for thermal comfort, energy, and PV output
  • Verify system operation and data collection

Phase 3

Measurement & Readout

  • Track performance against agreed baseline indicators
  • Compare pre- and post-install comfort and energy data
  • Produce plain-language summary for decision teams
  • Recommend next steps for expanded deployment or refinement

What a pilot evaluates

Comfort

  • Occupant survey responses
  • Complaint frequency before/after
  • Qualitative feedback from residents or staff

Energy

  • HVAC runtime and consumption
  • Peak demand intervals
  • Cooling load behavior on treated vs. untreated facades

Generation

  • PV output per louver and per window
  • Generation profile across peak hours
  • Self-consumption vs. export potential

Operational

  • Installation time and method
  • Maintenance observations
  • Compatibility with facade conditions

What makes an ideal pilot site

Not every building is a fit for a first pilot. The best pilot sites share a few characteristics that make measurement straightforward and results meaningful.

  • South or west-facing facade with significant solar exposure
  • Recurring occupant comfort complaints (heat, glare)
  • Limited rooftop solar opportunity or constrained electrical capacity
  • Motivated facilities or sustainability stakeholder
  • Willingness to share baseline energy and comfort data
  • Accessible window openings on 4+ windows in a common zone
