Where SolMod fits

SolMod is designed for existing buildings where windows drive overheating, comfort complaints, and peak energy costs — and where rooftop solar alone is not enough.

Student Housing

The Problem

Older dormitories were built with large south- and west-facing windows, minimal shading, and no operable ventilation. Students overheat, run portable AC units, and submit complaints that facilities teams cannot easily resolve.

Why SolMod

SolMod louvers mount directly to existing window openings to shade glazing, allow natural airflow, and generate electricity — without replacing windows or running new electrical circuits through residence halls.

Relevant for: University housing directors, campus facilities, sustainability offices

Multifamily Residential

The Problem

Apartments built in the 1960s through 1990s often have sealed or poorly performing windows on sun-exposed facades. Tenants experience high cooling bills, glare, and poor air quality — driving complaints and turnover.

Why SolMod

SolMod provides a non-invasive exterior retrofit that reduces heat gain, improves comfort, and produces on-site energy at the unit level. Phased deployment allows property managers to start with the worst-performing facades.

Relevant for: Property managers, affordable housing operators, asset owners

Campus & Institutional Buildings

The Problem

University and government buildings with large glass facades face sustainability mandates, occupant comfort targets, and deferred maintenance backlogs. Rooftop solar is often constrained by equipment, structural limits, or historic preservation.

Why SolMod

SolMod turns underperforming facades into distributed energy assets while improving thermal performance. Pilot-scale deployments can produce measurable results for internal reporting and sustainability commitments.

Relevant for: Campus energy managers, institutional sustainability teams, public sector procurement

Commercial Office Retrofits

The Problem

Sealed curtain-wall buildings trap solar heat and rely entirely on HVAC to compensate. Peak cooling demand is expensive and grid-stressing. Interior blinds and window films address glare but do not reduce heat gain meaningfully or generate power.

Why SolMod

Exterior-mounted SolMod louvers intercept solar energy before it reaches the glass — reducing cooling load at the source and producing electricity at peak demand hours when the grid needs it most.

Relevant for: Facilities managers, building owners, ESCOs, energy consultants

Buildings with Limited Rooftop Solar

The Problem

Many buildings cannot install rooftop PV due to mechanical equipment, structural load limits, roof condition, or shading from adjacent structures. This leaves large sun-exposed facades as untapped surface area.

Why SolMod

SolMod expands the solar opportunity from rooftop-only to the vertical envelope. South and west facades receive significant solar radiation during peak hours — the same hours that drive the highest energy costs.

Relevant for: Energy project developers, distributed energy planners, portfolio sustainability leads
